Scottish Roots & Aussie Beginnings

It has been long known through the various arms of our families in Australia that our Wilson origins were to be found in Scotland, and that our Australian beginnings were to be found in Tasmania from 1820. By the late 1850s some arms had moved to Victoria, and later again some had moved up to Queensland whilst others had emigrated to New Zealand. Meet the Boulters

The Boulter family is one with more than an average claim to noteworthiness with tales of adventure on, and off, the high seas; one of which is epitomised in the image below – can you guess what this image depicts and our first Boulter’s experience with it. But equally noteworthy the Boulters is a family with members in its first and later generations who excelled in many ways – in business, in horticulture, in the fine arts with song and music, in jurisprudence (in diverse and opposite ways too), and in heroic exploits in the field of battle.   The Boulter union with our Wilsons came about when the first of the Boulters to arrive in Australia, James Richard Boulter, met Elizabeth (shown here), the second daughter of William Sorell Wilson & Eliza Wilson. James Richard was a crew member, a steward, on board HMS Inconstant which in company with other ships of the line made a goodwill visit to Melbourne in 1881.  ...

Meet the Doigs

A fairly recent discovery (2010) was our marriage link with the Doig family which like our own hailed from the Dundee region. We were contacted by a Doig researcher living in USA and were able to identify the link as being between our Bonnie William’s sister Ann Wilson who married George Doig in Dundee in 1797. The Doigs have tracked their family’s origins and descendants in Scotland and across the world in quite a bit of detail.
